Muir Construction signs up to the Buy Social Pledge
Muir Construction is the latest organisation to sign the Buy Social Pledge, an initiative that empowers businesses to use their purchasing power for social and environmental good across Scotland’s communities.
Muir Construction is the latest organisation to sign the Buy Social Pledge, an initiative that empowers businesses to use their purchasing power for social and environmental good across Scotland’s communities.
The pledge, run by Social Enterprise Scotland, brings together corporate businesses, SMEs, academic institutions, and public sector bodies in a shared commitment to integrating social enterprises into their supply chains. It allows businesses and institutions to harness their purchasing power and contribute to positive social change in the communities in which they work.
By signing up, Muir Construction reinforces its commitment to sustainable procurement, community wealth building, and inclusive economic growth. The company will actively seek to partner with Scottish social enterprises across its supply chain, ensuring that more of the money it spends stays local and delivers wider social value.
Driving sustainable and equal opportunities throughout their Supply Chain and business operations is ingrained in Muir Construction’s culture. The company’s recent initiatives range from working with Foodbanks and purchasing catering services from local community groups, to actively working with local colleges, such as Fife College, to create employment opportunities for a diverse range of students.
On each project they deliver, Muir works closely with Clients, Consultants, and local organisations to identify ways in which they can positively impact the communities in which they work. This includes donating to local charities, visiting local schools, and running community projects. At an organisational level, the company is a member of The 5% Club, committed to having at least 5% of their workforce in ‘earn and learn’ roles, and is actively working to be an accredited Living Wage Employer by the end of the year.
David Fairweather, Business Development Director at Muir Construction Ltd said: “At Muir Construction, one of our core values is ‘Doing the Right Thing”. A people-oriented, family-run company, we strive to ensure that our operations promote a fairer, more inclusive economy and that we bring tangible benefits to each community we work in. As such, signing the pledge and partnering with Social Enterprise Scotland as a Supporter Member is a key strategic part of our sustainable growth strategy.
Janice Nicol, Business and Enterprise Manager at Social Enterprise Scotland said: “We’re delighted that Muir Construction has joined the Buy Social Scotland Pledge. Their commitment demonstrates the powerful role the construction industry can play in supporting social enterprises and the communities in which they work. We look forward to working closely with Muir Construction to maximise the social and environmental impact of their projects.”
