“The Edinburgh Remakery and the University of Edinburgh began working together in 2015. Throughout this partnership, more than 4,500 electronic items have been diverted from waste, and approximately 80% of these have been successfully repaired and given a new life. A cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and socially beneficial means for our old IT equipment to be reused.” - Michelle Brown, Head of Social Responsibility & Sustainability, University of Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Remakery is an environmental social enterprise committed to diverting waste from landfill, building a stronger community, and promoting a culture of repair and reuse. They repair, refurbish and recycle what others send to landfill, and pass these repair skills onto others within the Edinburgh community through education. They are small but have a wide impact; in the past 3 years they have prevented 106 tonnes of materials from going to landfill and have educated almost 4,000 people in repair and re-use skills.

Alongside their free IT Disposal Service for businesses and retail enterprise through which they refurbish and sell second-hand IT equipment, the Remakery is also a community resource: they offer creative workshops across a variety of craft disciplines focused around the theme of sustainable living, educational and training opportunities within the circular economy and paid apprenticeships for young people.
