Find out more

Are you looking for a unique way to travel to and from the Isle of Skye? The historic Glenelg Ferry is the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world and crosses the Kyle Rhea, the shortest gap between Skye and the mainland. It is also the oldest crossing, with a ferry service operational there since 1773.

Along with the stunning scenery, the Kylerhea Narrows are a great spot for wildlife spotting with grey seals, otters, eagles and a range of seabirds often seen in the area. Pods of dolphins have also been spotted in the waters.

The ferry service runs annually from Easter until October, seven days a week. It runs every 20 minutes between 10am and 6pm and between 10am and 7pm during June, July and August. Occasionally bad weather can affect the service, their website and facebook pages are updated regularly, please check before travel.

Fares start at £3 for foot passengers and £15 for cars. Minibus fares start at £25.

Isle of Skye Ferry is a social enterprise that owns and sails the last manually operated turntable ferry in existence, across the Kyerhea narrows, the original crossing between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland, between April and mid-October.
